Embracing the Citizens of Your Mind: A Journey to Self-Acceptance

As I travel from Costa Rica to Dubai with a quick stop in New York, I reflect on the deep workshops I’ve attended and the valuable lessons I’ve learned. One concept that particularly resonated with me is the idea of becoming friends with the citizens of your mind, as introduced to me by my friend Gareth.
The Four Archetypes
Gareth taught me that as human beings, we have access to certain archetypes, and as men, we have four specific ones:
The Warrior
The Magician
The Lover
The King
The King archetype embodies a generous blend of masculine and feminine energy, representing the best version of oneself. It exudes elegance, power, and a larger-than-life presence. Striving to embody the qualities of the King archetype is a noble pursuit for any man.
Embracing Your Inner Personalities
One powerful tool I’ve learned is the practice of identifying and befriending the various personality traits within ourselves. We all have different personas that manifest in our thoughts and actions, and by naming and acknowledging them, we can begin to disassociate from them and engage in meaningful conversations with them.
Here are a few examples of the personas I’ve identified within myself:
Little Farzad: The righteous, know-it-all persona reminiscent of a 10-year-old trying to impress religious grandparents.
Marty the Martyr: The self-pitying persona.
Sarah: The female version of myself.
Juan: The lover and rebel within me.
By humanising these personas through naming them, I’ve been able to develop a sense of acceptance and friendship towards them. This practice has brought me a newfound level of peace and understanding within myself.
Looking Ahead to 2024
As I look towards the future, my goal for 2024 is to continue embracing and befriending more of these inner citizens. I hope to foster a deeper sense of self-acceptance and understanding by identifying and loving each persona.
