Preparing For An Uncertain Future With AI

In a recent speaking engagement, I had the opportunity to address crowds in the UAE and Africa, consisting of distribution companies, banking institutions, and insurance companies. What struck me was the palpable fear and trepidation surrounding the topic of AI.
It’s understandable – the unknown can be daunting. However, there are ways to navigate this uncertain future. Here are three strategies that I believe can benefit everyone:
1. Strong Opinions, Held Loosely
One of the keys to preparing for the future is to have strong opinions but hold them loosely, which means being open to new information and perspectives and being willing to adapt your ideas about the future as further information becomes available.
If we cling too tightly to our current beliefs, we risk distorting or dismissing valuable information that doesn’t align with our preconceived notions.
2. Spend Time in the Future
In today’s digital age, countless resources are available to help us engage with the future. Whether through YouTube, podcasts, emails, or the internet, we have unprecedented access to information about emerging technologies and trends.
Try to dedicate at least 10 minutes daily to exploring these resources and familiarizing yourself with what lies ahead.
3. Find a Reverse Mentor
It’s essential to recognize that the younger generation often has a more intuitive understanding of new technologies and trends. By finding a “reverse mentor” – someone younger than you who can provide insight into their world – you can gain valuable perspective on the changes taking place.
Engaging with younger individuals can offer a fresh lens through which to view the future and can help you stay informed about the latest developments.
As the saying goes, “The future has arrived. It’s just unevenly distributed.” By embracing these three strategies, you can better position yourself to navigate the evolving landscape of technology and innovation.
Remember, the future is inevitable – it’s up to us to prepare for it. Good luck as you embark on this journey of readiness and adaptation.
