The Magic of Language: How the Words You Use Shape Your Reality

At school, the first thing we learn is how to spell.

Then we’re taught how to put those spells into sentences.

And every time we speak, we’re “sentencing” ourselves.

It sounds poetic, but it’s also precise. Because language is far more than a simple description, it’s design. And most of us are unconsciously designing a life we don’t even want.

We say things like “I’m broke,” “I’m overwhelmed,” or “People are lazy,” and then we live in a world that echoes back exactly that.

Your vocabulary becomes your reality, and until you see the link, you’ll keep reinforcing the very things you want to change.

Language Isn’t Passive. It’s Programmatic.

If you follow my work, you’ll know I’m a big fan of Dr Joe Dispenza.

He teaches something simple but powerful: that your thoughts affect your biology, your behavior, and your future. And your language is how those thoughts become real.

It’s why I start my mornings by “creating my day.” Not reacting to it, creating it. And that creation begins with the words I choose.

We often speak as if we’re simply reporting on life. “It’s too expensive.” “My staff don’t care.” “The system is broken.” But every time we do that, we’re not just describing reality — we’re reinforcing it.

Our language becomes our rituals.
Our rituals become our habits.
Our habits become our behaviours.
Our behaviours become our personality.
Our personality becomes our personal reality.

Words are the architecture of the future of those who speak them.

Why Words Reflect Culture (And Crisis)

Today’s language is fast. It’s short. It’s impatient. We LOL, BRB, send voice notes instead of having conversations, and respond to 10-line emails with a single emoji.

It’s a sign of our time: we’re in a rush. Not just physically, but cognitively. And our language reflects that. We don’t stop to consider the impact of what we’re saying; we just need to say it fast.

But the language we use, even when we’re being “honest”, still carries weight. It sets frequency. And that frequency sets direction.

If you keep saying something is “hard,” it will be.
If you keep calling your team “useless,” they’ll prove you right.
If you keep saying you’re “stuck,” you’ll stay where you are.

Words do more than just describe the problem. They animate it and bring it to life.

Upgrade the Code

So what do we do? We reframe.

Not to be cute or to avoid reality. But to reshape it.

A few shifts I use in my own life:

  • “This is too expensive” becomes “This isn’t a priority right now.”

  • “I failed” becomes “I had a revelation.”

  • “That’s not possible” becomes “I haven’t yet found a way.”

Miki Agrawal put it perfectly: we don’t need to fail harder — we need to reveal smarter.

You’re not faking it. You’re learning to speak from the future you want, not the frustration you’re in.

Speak Like It Matters (Because It Does)

This isn’t about becoming a linguistic monk or censoring yourself at dinner parties. It’s about becoming aware, aware of the weight of your words and the world they build around you.

Try this for a week:
Notice what you say after the words “I am.”
Because whatever comes next is not just an opinion. It’s a declaration.

“I am tired.”
“I am behind.”
“I am not good with money.”

These aren’t just harmless statements. They’re programs. And your brain will run those programs every time you speak them aloud.

So switch the script.

“I am working hard.”
“I am not yet ahead.”
“I am still learning to budget.”

Your brain will believe that and start building toward it.

In Closing

We cast spells every day, not with wands, but with words.

And the truth is, we don’t rise to the level of our intentions. We rise to the level of our language.

So choose yours with care.
Not because you should, but because your future is listening.
And it’s waiting to be told what to become.
