Today, I want to share with you my recent experience of diving into the cold water and how it led to a thought-provoking conversation about the impact of technology on various aspects of our lives.
While in the water, I had the opportunity to chat with a gentleman involved in renewable energy. He expressed frustration with the challenges of convincing governments and individuals to embrace renewable energy, which led us to discuss the influence of digitisation on different industries.
We delved into digitisation, making many things almost free, referencing Jeremy Rifkin’s book, “The Zero Marginal Cost Society.” When technology and digitisation enter a sector, it becomes dematerialised and demonetised; this means that communication, entertainment, and education have become almost free, thanks to the digital revolution.
While it may seem unimaginable, we are moving towards a future where transportation and energy could also become free. Just as we couldn’t fathom communication and entertainment being free in the past, we now witness the transformation of these sectors.
I recently attended a lecture on non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and realised that even art and written content are evolving in this digital age. With AI, creating unique art pieces and original written content has become more accessible than ever. This shift raises the question of how we perceive the value of art and words in this new era.
As we move towards a future where communication, education, entertainment, transportation, and energy are becoming almost free, and art and written content are being produced using AI, it’s natural to wonder how we can add value in this rapidly evolving world. The possibilities are both exciting and daunting, and it’s clear that we are only at the beginning of this transformative journey.
The following 5 to 10 years will bring about unprecedented changes, and while it may seem overwhelming, I am mostly excited about the endless possibilities ahead. The world as we know it is on the brink of a remarkable transformation, and I can’t wait to see how we adapt and thrive in this new landscape.
