Lonely or Just Alone? The Inner Game of Travel
Hey
In 2023, I took 66 flights to 43 cities, and last year it was 85 flights to 44 cities. So, I get asked this question a lot. Don’t you get lonely, always being on the move? Airports, hotel lobbies, cities where you don’t know a soul?
And my answer is always the same. No, I never get lonely. Because I’m always with myself. And I actually enjoy my own company.
I’m the kind of traveler I’d travel with. I like to wander with no itinerary, get a little lost, find a local spot when I feel a bit hungry or thirsty, maybe look up restaurants nearby if the vibe is right. I’ve done this in dozens of cities around the world. Sometimes in the chaos, sometimes in the stillness, but always in good company; mine.
This isn’t about introversion. It’s about frequency. Loneliness isn’t really about being alone. It’s about feeling disconnected from yourself, from your surroundings, from the present moment. But when you’re in rhythm with your own curiosity, your own instincts, and your own joy of discovery, that disconnection dissolves.
What I’ve found is that the more present I am with myself, the less I seek to escape into distraction, people, or plans. Travel becomes a mirror. And it reflects who I am becoming. Not who I’m trying to run away from.

Actionable Insight
The next time you feel lonely, ask yourself, are you really alone? Or are you just not tuned in to your own company?
The future of emotional resilience isn’t in constant connection. It’s in the ability to be deeply present, especially with yourself.
Because the most expansive journeys are the ones we take inward.
Until next time…keep future rising
